In keeping with our mission and vision, in 2002, the Assembly of Architects established an annual event called Baraza, which means “gathering” in Swahili. The event is an evening affair that allows AOA partners to showcase their achievements and contributions to the greater community. It is Organizational Activities August 15, 2007 9 Annual Report 2006 Organizational Activities also used to raise educational support funds for the Jay Tyson Memorial Scholarship, named after an African American architect who contributed over forty years of service to the Twin Cities.
The Assembly of Architects partnered with the Architectural Youth Program ( AYP) who helped to develop scholarship criteria and assisted with identifying deserving scholarship recipients. This partnership with AYP will continue as we look towards hosting our 2007 Baraza event later this fall.
